Three of the best wedding venues
From London to the Cotswolds, we’ve rounded up the most spectacular places in Britain to tie the knot.
The House at No.131, Cheltenham
No. 131, 131 Promenade, Cheltenham GL50 1NW. 01242 822 939; www.no131.com
A seamless mix of sophistication and fun, our beautiful Georgian townhouse The House at No.131 in the heart of Cheltenham makes for the perfect Cotswolds wedding.
Licensed for civil ceremonies, exchange vows in the elegant lounge or the dining room before heading outside for your drinks reception on the new terrace, surrounded by stunning arrangements from The Beautiful Flower Company. We are well-known for our British feasts, too, using the best of locally-sourced ingredients, so savour an elegant wedding breakfast in the private dining room or book out The House for exclusive use.
After dancing the night away to the tunes of your favourite DJ, settle down in one of the eight individually-designed bedrooms, featuring unique furniture, sumptuous Egyptian bed linen and heavenly Aqua di Parma products.
The Treehouse at The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland
The castle is Harry Potter’s Hogwarts but the garden is a storybook fantasy, too.
Designed by the Duchess of Northumberland, there is plenty to surprise and delight, from the tranquillity of the Cherry Orchard, the drama of the Grand Cascade and the mysterious Bamboo Labyrinth to the Serpent Garden’s spell-binding water sculptures and the intrigue of the Poison Garden. Then there’s the world’s largest treehouse – which also makes for a magical wedding venue with twinkling lights, private decking, rope walkways and log fires.
With a wedding licence, this woodland wonderland can host ceremonies for 65 guests and receptions for 120 guests. Tuck into delicious locally-produced food, accompanied by hand-selected wines. Then wander the fairy tale grounds while the striking views provide the perfect backdrop for photographs.
The Gherkin, London
Weddings with a view don’t come more incredible than the 360-degree cityscape panorama on show from the top two floors of one of London’s most iconic skyscrapers.
Licensed for civil ceremonies, the glass dome of the Gherkin, home to the two-level restaurant and bar ‘Searcys’, is perfect for urban weddings for up to 140 people (or 260 guests for standing receptions). With a history dating back over 170 years, Searcys pairs high-end design with vintage cuvées and contemporary cooking.
A team of event planners are on hand, making sure your big day is everything you have ever imagined, from bespoke menus to fabulous floral arrangements. Finish off the night, dancing into the early hours, surrounded by the flickering lights of London’s night sky.
